Mount Stewart House and Gardens - 360 Degree Video - NI Video

Home
Check out our 360 Degree Video of Mount Stewart - its house and gardens. This is an amazing National Trust property in Newtownards in County Down. The Mount Stewart Gardens are award winning and the property is often used for weddings - especially the Temple of the Winds building with its great views over the water.

Mount Stewart House is a 19th century house with its garden which used to be owned by the Stewart family who bought the estate in 1744 and since then has been known as Mount Stewart, until it passed into Trust in 1977 and is now run and operated by the National Trust. This is one famous place that is located in county Down and which has a magnificent view since it overlooks Strangeford Lough, just outside Newtownards.

The Mount Stewart House and Gardens is now a good choice for those who are searching for a different place in which they could make their wedding - which is one of the famous uses of this house nowadays. Since it is still chosen as a place that people could check in county Down, the National Trust has completed the restorations done for the place in 2015 and even purchased additional land to make the size of the estate reach 950 acres - so it is definitely a huge place now.

The Mount Stewart House was the Irish seat of the Vane-Tempest-Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry, and that is why the house and its contents reflect the history of the Vane-Tempest-Stewart family, who played a great leading role in the British and Irish political and social life.

The house itself is always grabbing the attention of the visitors, but even the gardens are magnificent which has also been worked on recently by the National Trust. After redesigning the interiors of the house, the Marchioness redesigned the gardens as well in the most lavish way possible; she added the Shamrock Garden, the Sunken Garden, increased the size of the lake, added a Spanish Garden with a small hut, added an Italian Garden, the Dodo Terrace, Menagerie, the Fountain Pool and laid out walks in the Lily Wood and rest of the estate, and that was after the death of her husband when the garden was nothing more than plain lawns with decorative pots. From 1957, the gardens were then given to the National Trust to take care of the property as a whole.

In addition to the House itself and the gardens, there is also what is referred to as "The Temple of the Winds" that was designed in 1782 and 1783. The Temple of the Winds is an octagonal building that was built through the inspiration which the first Marquess received from the Grand Tour that he took during his youth. This building is believed to be similar to the Shugborough and West Wycombe Park and it was designed by architect James Athenian Stuart back then.

In this 360 degree video which we have brought to you from the Mount Stewart House and Gardens, we were standing at the Temple of the Winds and overlooking the wide sea - we decided to bring it from a different perspective this time so that viewers could get the chance to experience something different and new - and we definitely recommend this old place for those who are visiting county Down anytime soon and will be close to its destination.
