Carrickfergus Castle, County Antrim - Northern Ireland Video

Home
There are lots of castles that one could come and visit in Ireland and Northern Ireland and every single one of them carries behind a specific story or a history that is different from the other and we are trying to visit the most of them to bring you new historical places to visit while being in Ireland or Northern Ireland.

Carrickfergus Castle in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, is one of those different castles that could be visited in the country. Carrickfergus Castle is a Norman Irish castle which its name means "cairn of Fergus" with Fergus here meaning a strong man. This castle is situated in the town of Carrickfergus in county Antrim on the northern shore of Belfast Lough.

Through the tour we have taken inside the castle - with Michelle being our guide and giving us the needed information about the place and some explanation needed - we realized that this castle was considered very important in the old days and managed to play an important military role until 1928 since about 3/4 of the castle was surrounded by water before the reclamation of the land which we experience today. Due to its importance back in the old days, we have to say that today, this castle is considered one of the best medieval structures in Northern Ireland.

So, moving through the rooms of the castle, we learned how the prisoners were left in the prison and how they were considered preys inside that cage-room, we also passed by other rooms - and even passed by the toilet which the kids never managed to guess what it was - and knew why there were specific things related to the castle built in specific ways and how it all helped with the war back in those old days.

Through the walk, we have passed by some statues which were representing special people with specific roles in the castle back at that time and those which were placed just to give tourists and visitors the chance to understand the role of the room of the place which they are walking through at the moment. There was for example the guard man who was placed in the prison at the very beginning of the tour, there was also Lady Africa who was a fighting princess, and there was also Gilbert the master gunner.

In the middle of our journey in the Carrickfergus Castle, we came across this area where people where offering food and drinks and where some of them were doing that in the old ways or trying to appear as if they are coming from the old days when the castle was used for wars and for such reasons.

Another thing that grabbed our attention and also one thing that makes this castle different than all the other is the water well; Carrickfergus Castle is considered the only castle that has a water well in it with fresh water which made it special because even if the men are locked inside due to a war, they could still manage to get fresh water from that well while being inside the castle.

We loved visiting Carrickfergus Castle and even the kids enjoyed the experience because they experienced the castle along with the rooms of those old days, they also got on top of the castle and saw the view of the lake from up there and how the army men used to defend themselves from up there - it was all different along with the food which they were given samples of in order to try.

We have been to several places in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, before and actually enjoyed every single one of them - some where even meant for the kids to have some fun and play around. Those which we would recommend include the Dark Hedges (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTeQU6rezOQ), there is also Ballycastle (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRnEyd8iTXc), the Carnfunnock Country Park (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7dpnG6P2Kk), the Cushendun Caves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-b38RSzgis), there is also the Ballygally and Ballintoy in the North Coast (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H7VhL7xmaQ), and the kids also enjoyed the Valley Park in Newtownabbey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGKdU8ge7NA).

Parks and castles could be considered our favorite - we love the idea of walking through old buildings that used to be beneficial for the people at that time - or army men - and we love exploring different trails while walking through nature and experiencing these different parks which might be following a specific theme - also the kids love walking and running through these parks while trying to explore them with us, so it is a win-win situation all the way.

Our trip to the Carrickfergus Castle was worth it and we definitely recommend it to tourists who are visiting Northern Ireland and will be close to county Antrim.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟
