Ballywalter is along the Irish Sea on the Ards peninsula between Donaghadee and Ballyhalbert. It has an amazing beach - one of the best beaches in Northern Ireland. When we checked, it was ranked 12th on Tripadvisor - its possibly not higher as not enough people know about it! Even better for us :-) (

If you love those sandy beaches - and who actually doesn't - then you should definitely visit Ballywalter beach in Newtownards in Northern Ireland which is considered a perfect match for all the members of the family because it will bring enjoyment for every single one of them; those who enjoy bathing and getting into the water will love it and those who love walking on the beach will also enjoy the feeling of the sand on their legs, and that's in addition to the rock pools which the children will enjoy along with the playground which is located near.
No one will ever deny that Ballywalter beach is one of the well known destinations in Northern Ireland for that long sandy beach that it owns and not just that, but also for the perfect water quality that it could provide people with. If you come to visit this place in summer, you will find those swimming in the water and you will also realize that there are lots of those who just came to have a walk with their dogs. On the other hand, in winter, this place turns out to be perfect for all the birdwatchers who could come and check a few types that visit the place, which include the Ring Plover, the Golden Plover, Turnstone, Manx Shearwater, and others.
This place has been awarded the Seaside Award Rural in 2017 for the different facilities that it could offer and which include the car parking area, the playing areas and playgrounds for kids, allowing dogs in the place, the disabled access and parking bays, as well as the toilets of course. Even though Ballywalter beach received this award recently, it is important to mention that there aren't any lifeguards in the place - which is an important thing to inform people with so that they would be taking all the precautions needed and having their eyes placed on their kids.
This sandy beach is located to the south of Ballywalter Village and stretches along the coast for about 3 kilometers and it is also in a rural setting that is backed almost by fields, making it the right choice for those who want to have a walk by the beach or a swim in a quiet and peaceful area.
This is one of the beaches we definitely recommend but we have also been to a number or other ones which might be closer to some of you and thus could choose instead of Ballywalter. There are usually a couple of things which we consider when we choose a beach to go to and have a dip in or even just enjoy walking by the water. One of these things which we might want to find around the place is the security offered at the place for those getting into the water as well as even just for the place in general especially when it comes to the kids; Ballywalter beach might not have lifeguards but it is still considered a safe area for the kids to play in and a good choice for the families that want to spend some quality time at the beach as well.
Ballywalter beach is a recommended place in both summer and winter for the different reasons we have already mentioned above and also a place for those willing to have a different view of the Irish sea coastline while standing at the raised area at the Lime Kilns - which is a furnace for reducing limestone or shells to lime by burning - which are believed to date back to lots of years.
It seems that there are different reasons that would convince a lot of people to come to this place and enjoy the facilities it offer which will make both the adults as well as the young happy while swimming, walking, and while generally playing around.
