There are numerous nurseries in North America where you can purchase orchids such as #Cypripedium or Lady Slipper orchids. The price can range from $30-$100 per plant. Do not buy orchids online because they could be sold in very poor condition and you will be unable to properly screen the plant to ensure it is healthy. Buy a healthy orchid from a trusted supplier. Do not buy the seeds of the Cypripedium orchid online because it is always a scam. The seeds of this orchid are very tiny, almost like dust and the seedlings take 7-13 years of growth to become an adult. Additionally, these orchids cannot grow without a symbiotic fungus which is called mycorrhiza. Because of this, you cannot grow orchids from seeds. This is why they only grow in the laboratories of the nurseries where they can grow one stem in about 2-3 years. So if you get a healthy plant, you can grow it in your garden outside in just a few easy steps.
Find a place in your garden where the soil is always moist, even on a hot summer day. Make sure it’s a shady place with only a few hours of sunlight a day. Dig a hole in the ground, roughly 50x50cm. Put a layer of river sand at the bottom of the hole, then follow that with a layer of gravel/small river rocks. Next, put a thin layer Humus or black earth for nutrition. Then put the big rocks on top of that. Plant the orchid in between the rocks and fill the gaps with sphagnum moss. Do not water the orchid with tap water as this will kill it.
